Maine stops providing details of oil-by-rail shipments to public

The state’s Department of Environmental Protection on Wednesday declined a reporter’s request for monthly volumes of crude oil shipped by rail, citing a June law that prohibits emergency responders from disclosing certain details about rail shipments of hazardous materials through the state.

Canadian oil trains to US to reach “staggering” levels

Sightline Institute says oil shipped by rail into Washington and Oregon states alone will reach one million barrels per day by the year 2018, quadrupling current levels.

A train carrying crude oil has derailed and is leaking oil in Watertown, although no injuries or fires have been reported so far. A spokesman for Canadian Pacific said in an email that least 10 cars went off the tracks around 2 p.m. as the train was heading east.

Oil train information will be limited in New Jersey
